***COVID-19 UPDATE, May 7 2020:***
Pastor Karen, Board Chair Andrew Burkhart and Elder Chair Tonia Sherrod met Wednesday May 6 to discuss a potential timeline for resumption of worship and other activities at South Side.
While the Governor has issued a plan to gradually "reopen" the state to somewhere near normal activity, we believe that the demographic profile of our congregation (vast majority over age 65, and many with ongoing health issues) demands that we as a church proceed with extreme caution.
If the Indiana "reopen" plan does not result in a significant new wave of infections, our current plan is to resume worship and other activities, with certain cautions and restrictions, on SUNDAY JULY 5 2020.
Until then we will "continue to be the Church" on a number of fronts:
-- Sharing "The Sacred Story" on Facebook or by US mail
-- Daily scriptures will be delivered by e-mail, 7 days per week
-- Elders will continue to deliver home communion bags the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month
-- The church office continues to function regular hours, Monday-Thursday 9 AM - 1 PM (thank you, !), although we strongly discourage unannounced "drop-in" visits for the protection of all, both staff and congregation. Just a reminder, our phone number is 765-457-9357.
When we do resume scheduled worship, you will see some changes to our physical church environment:
--At least two hand sanitizer dispensers will be available, in the narthex and at the west entrance near the church office
-- Sanctuary seating will be cordoned off, probably in alternating rows, to help maintain appropriate "social distancing"
-- We will refrain, at least for now, from handshakes or other forms of physical-touch greeting
-- Bulletins will be "self-served", rather than handed out individually
-- We are working to secure "no-touch" paper towel dispensers for all restrooms that do not currently have them
-- Alternate procedures will be established for worship-service communion and offering to avoid the passing of plates
More details will follow as we develop them, or as conditions, such as community infection rates, change.
And finally, a word of sincere appreciation and grateful thanks for your continued faithful giving in this difficult time. You have truly sustained and blessed us with your ongoing financial support through the mail, the west outside-door mail slot on Union Street, and the electronic giving link on our church website ()
Please drop off any tithes, offerings or other correspondence in the mail slot on the Union Street door. Should you have an immediate need, please contact the church office at 765-457-9357 or Pastor Karen at 765-894-0385.
Thank you and blessings on your health and safety.
